Clery Requirements

MSU recognizes the importance of safety awareness to our community and is committed to complying with the Clery Act. In accordance with the requirements of the Clery Act, the University will:

  • Collect, classify, and count crime reports and crime statistics.
  • Publish an annual security and fire safety report distributed to all current students and employees containing:
    • Safety and security-related policy statements;
    • Crime statistics;
    • Fire statistics associated with each on-campus housing facility;
    • Fire safety information related to on-campus student housing facilities;
    • Procedures for institutional disciplinary action in cases of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking; and,
    • Missing student notification procedures that pertain to students residing in on-campus student housing facilities.
  • Submit crime statistics to the Department of Education each fall via web-based data collection.
  • Maintain a daily crime and fire log, open to public inspection.
  • Issue timely warnings for Clery Act crimes that occur on Clery Act geography that are considered serious or continuing threat to students and employees.
  • Issue an emergency notification upon confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or employees occurring on the campus.
  • Provide prevention and awareness educational programs and campaigns for students and employees.
